Did you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month?
I, like I'm sure a lot of people do, rarely think about cancer. I'm too young. It won't effect me. I rarely feel my boobies up and make sure they are ok. I forget to book screenings. I don't think about it enough at all. But I should!
2 years ago, cancer became a whole lot more on my radar when my friend was diagnosed, at 29, with breast cancer. Twenty nine. We hadn't even hit 30 yet and she was suddenly facing a massive fight against this terrifying disease. Of course, I instantly crocheted her a blanket...what else could I do at such a time.
It really shocked me, and made me take a real hard look at the fact that...cancer doesn't care how old you are, your creed, race or gender. It's there, in all of our lives somewhere, whether its a relative, friend or us ourselves. Getting things checked is so so important. Boobies, balls, bits, coughs, lumps and bumps, whatever it is, get checked.
Thankfully, my friend fought valiantly in her battle and was very lucky. She now has the all clear and is ready to start her next adventure. But I feel like I still haven't done enough. So I had an idea that I hope you guys will love as much as I do.
I had my pal over at Heartfelt Illustrations draw me up a limited edition pin for the How Do You Stash Yours range, with all profits going to the Breast Cancer Care fund. Of course, it had to be a bra with yarn stashed in it (this is also a great idea by the way, no one will ever look for it in the underwear draw!) These will be £10 including postage and there will only be 100 printed. These will be ready to dispatch by October 2017.
So, to summarise, by a badge, check your bits...ok?
